Beginning in 1981, authors John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Fualks, Jeffery Deaver and others continuously added new original novels in the series. The character was created by British writer Ian Fleming (1908-1964) and appears in 14 of Fleming's novels between 19, two after his death. The best-known fictitious undercover agent of all time is James Bond.
